ice forecasts for the Great Lakes issued by Environment Canada at 12:00 p.M. EDT Wednesday 17 March 2010 for today tonight and Thursday. The next scheduled forecasts will be issued at 12:00 p.M. Thursday.

Western Lake Superior. Ice free except patches of 9 tenths of rotten medium lake ice along portions of the southwestern shore. Consolidated thick lake ice in Thunder Bay except 2 tenths of thick lake ice in strips from the entrance to Welcome Island.

Eastern Lake Superior. Ice free except patches of 10 tenths of rotten medium lake ice along portions of the southern shore.

Whitefish Bay. 10 tenths of rotten thick lake ice except open water in the entrance to the Bay.

Southern Lake Huron. Ice free except patches of 9 to 10 tenths of rotten thick lake ice within 10 to 15 miles of Sarnia. 9 tenths of rotten thick lake ice in Saginaw Bay.

Northern Lake Huron. Ice free except 10 tenths of rotten medium lake ice including 3 tenths of rotten thick lake ice southwest of Bois Blanc Island.

North Channel. 8 tenths of rotten thick lake ice except 10 tenths of rotten thick lake ice in the eastern and western sections.

Georgian Bay. Open water except patches of 9 to 10 tenths of rotten medium lake ice in the southern portion of the Bay east of wiarton. Consolidated thick lake ice along the northeast Shore.

Lake St. Clair. Open water except patches of 9 to 10 tenths of rotten thick lake ice in the southwestern portion.

Eastern Lake Erie. Open water except 8 to 9 tenths of rotten thick lake ice along the southern shore west of Dunkirk. 4 tenths of rotten thick lake ice in strips east and south of Long Point.

Western Lake Erie. Open water except 4 tenths of rotten thick lake ice in the southern section near Cleveland. 9 to 10 tenths of rotten thick lake ice elsewhere along portions of the southern Shore.

Lake Ontario. Ice free except 4 tenths of rotten thick lake ice in the Bay of Quinte.

Northern Lake Michigan. Open water except areas of 9 to 10 tenths of rotten medium lake ice including 3 tenths of rotten thick lake ice along the southern and northern shore west of The Straits of Mackinac and within Little Traverse Bay.

Southern Lake Michigan. Open water except 9 to 10 tenths of rotten thin lake ice including 4 tenths of rotten medium lake ice along the southern shore between Michigan City and Gary.

Green Bay. 9 to 10 tenths of rotten thick lake ice west and southwest of Washington Island except consolidated rotten thick lake ice in the bays de noc and southern portions of Green Bay south of Chambers Island.
