the Assabet River at Maynard.
* At 10:30 am Thursday the stage was 6.1 feet.
* Flood stage is 5.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue to fall to below flood stage by
early Saturday morning.
* Impact... at 6.0 feet... flooding is likely in low lying sections
along the river including portions of Maynard... Hudson and Concord.
Water may approach homes along the river and may force several
localized Road closures.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Nashua River at East Pepperell.
* At 11:32 am Thursday the stage was missing.
* Flood stage is 8.0 feet.
* Forecast... the river will continue to fall to a stage of 11.8 feet
by tomorrow morning.
* Impact... flooding is expected in low lying
residential areas along portions of the Nashua River. Follow the
directions provided by your local emergency management officials.
If you are asked to evacuate... do so immediately. Avoid flood prone
locations. Know the alternate routes in your location so you avoid
areas where flood waters may have damaged or closed area roadways.

* at 821 am EDT Thursday river levels continue to fall and many
small rivers in eastern Massachusetts have fallen into minor flood.
The exceptions are the Taunton river in Bridgewater which has
lowered from major flood into now moderate flood... and the Ipswich
river in Ipswich remains in moderate flood. Both of these rivers
continue to fall slowly but will likely remain in moderate flood
into at least Friday.

the monatiquot river in East Braintree
the Jones river in Kingston
the Mill River in Taunton

The Jones river in Kingston and the Nashua River in Clinton should
fall below flood stage some time this afternoon. The monatiquot
river in East Braintree should fall below flood stage some time this
afternoon or evening.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.
However... all interested parties should take necessary precautions
immediately.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway... including underpasses. The water may be too deep to allow
vehicles to cross safely... or the roadway may be undermined.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. If you
are in the warning area move to higher ground immediately. Residents
living near streams and creeks should take immediate action to
protect life and property. Do not attempt to cross flooded areas by
foot or in your vehicle.

The National Weather Service has declared March 15 to 19 flood
safety awareness week. The National Weather Service in Taunton MA will
feature a different educational topic each day during the awareness
week. Today's topic... determining flood risk and flood insurance.

What is flood insurance?
In 1968, Congress created the National flood insurance
program... nfip... in response to the rising cost of taxpayer funded
disaster relief for flood victims and the increasing amount of damage
caused by floods.

Why do I need flood insurance?
Flood losses are not covered by your homeowners insurance policy. Local
flooding can happen in all parts of the country at almost any time of
the year. Flooding causes more damage in the United States than any
other weather related event, an average of 4.6 billion dollars a year in the
past 20 years.

How do I obtain a flood insurance policy?
You can Purchase National flood insurance from private insurance
companies and agents. In fact, you may be able to Purchase it with a
credit card. Currently, there are over 100 insurance companies that
sell National flood insurance coverage, in addition to some 60
thousand independent insurance agents.

If the seller of the property has flood insurance coverage on the
building... that policy can be assigned to the buyer at the time of
closing. If the mortgage company requires flood insurance as a
condition of the loan... the lender may escrow flood insurance premiums
... Making it easy to ensure that you will not get caught without
flood insurance when a flood threatens your home.

Who can Purchase flood insurance?
Anyone in a community that participates in the National flood insurance
program can Purchase building and... or contents coverage... with a few
exceptions. Coastal barrier resources system areas... otherwise protected
areas... and buildings principally below ground or entirely over water
are not eligible for National flood insurance.
