... 5th and final day of National flood awareness week for 2010...
Today's topic is flood safety and preparation. Floods happen and an average of 100 deaths per year occurred between 1997 and 2006. Good preparation and knowing what to do in a flood will heighten your awareness toward safety and possibly your survival.
Some flood safety preparation tips to follow are:
- prepare a family disaster plan. - Check to see if your insurance covers flood damage. If not... get flood insurance. - Keep insurance... important documents and other valuable items in a safe deposit box. - Assemble a disaster supplies kit. - Make a keep-in touch arrangement with relatives and friends.
Refer to Red Cross or federal emergency management agency web sites for ideas and examples of disaster plans and disaster kits.
