The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued an
* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for minor flooding of poor drainage areas in... eastern Cheshire County in southern New Hampshire... this includes the city of Jaffrey... Hillsborough County in southern New Hampshire... this includes the cities of... Nashua... Manchester...
* until 545 PM EDT Sunday
* at 939 am EDT National Weather Service Doppler radar showed areas of significant rain moving across Hillsborough and eastern Cheshire counties. Rainfall amounts of between two and three inches have either been observed or estimated in this area.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated or ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels on small creeks and streams... and ponding of water in urban areas... highways... streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage areas and low lying spots.
Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely. Move to higher ground.
... Flood Watch remains in effect through Monday morning...
The Flood Watch continues for
* northern Connecticut... Rhode Island... Massachusetts east of the Berkshires and southwest New Hampshire.
* Through Monday morning
* even though the heaviest rain fell last night... occasionally heavy rain today into Monday will continue to send runoff into rivers and streams. Rainfall totals of 3 to 6 inches are expected by Monday morning.
* In addition to significant urban and poor drainage flooding... small streams may rise out of their banks today. Some larger rivers... which normally take longer to respond to heavy rain... may rise out of their banks late today or tonight. Some of the more vulnerable locations include rivers in the Merrimack basin of northeast Massachusetts... as well as the Blackstone... Charles and Neponset basins.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
