Weather Underground midday recap for Thursday, March 18, 2010.

The weather across the nation remained quite calm on Thursday. In the East, an area of low pressure off of the Carolina coast sent clouds and rain back into the coast. Rain was mostly limited to the Carolinas, but cloud cover was present throughout much of the Southeast.

The cloud cover associated with the Carolina low didn't move much into the Mid-Atlantic, so clear skies were noted from Virginia into the Northeast and Mid-West. Temperatures throughout the entire eastern half of the country were very warm, with highs in the upper 60s for many locations.

The Southern and Central Plains were also warm under sunny skies Thursday as high pressure continued to sit over the region. The Northern Plains saw some light precipitation along with some cloud cover from Wyoming through the Dakotas and into Minnesota. None of this precipitation was causing any serious problems.

In the West, clear skies were present from Mexico to Canada along the Pacific coast. Warm weather was reported throughout the region, though onshore winds kept temperatures cool at the beaches.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Thursday have ranged from a morning low of 12 degrees at Marfa, Texas to a midday high of 88 degrees at Palm Springs, Calif.
