THIS ENTRY follows the history of the remannts of Hurricane Ida
From the decaying Nor'Easter on November 15th thru the present day.

Please BE PATIENT - as many images will be loading on this page.

November 29, 2009 - November 27, 2009
While any remnant of Ida was likely absorbed on the 26th I continued to follow the frontal system that interacted with it. That front eventually dissipated early this morning just short of the Canary Islands off the coast of Morocco.
Here are loops of the past 3 days, most recent loop posted first.

This concludes a nearly month long tracking of Ida.

November 26, 2009
The remains of Ida have finally been fully absorbed into a frontal system and stretched beyond recognition. What was left of Ida's energy is probably just SW of the Azores if not over them.
Out of interest I will continue to follow that particular frontal system until it's final decay.
24 Hour loop.

Good Morning. If you can believe it... still tracking the remnants of Ida'Easter. She's been stretched and largely absorbed by a frontal system far out in the East Atlantic but still maintains enough structure to be picked out.
The NHC officially declared Ida's remnants dissipated into a trough back on November 19th but the system was (and is) still clearly discernible on satellite as an individual entity.
24 Hour Loop:

It would appear we're near the end of being able to objectively track this system as this final transition may end the ability to accurately point it out.
This is day 26 of this system.

November 24, 2009 - PM
X'Ida'Easter still plugging along.
Between 32 and 35 North and 36 and 39 West.
Best Guess: Headed for the Canary Islands off of Morocco.

November 24, 2009 - AM
Good Morning. The remnants of Ida continue to push along into the East Atlantic. Around 32.5N and 42W.
RAMSDIS Loop:

24Hour Loop:

The window of opportunity for any tropical re-development has passed. Yesterday morning the system looked very well organized but has since been hit with higher shear and will remain extra-tropical in nature as it brushes the Azores and possibly curves back ESE to take on the Canary Islands before possibly landfalling near Morocco. Keep in mind we first started watching an area of disturbed weather in the SW Caribbean on October 31st!

Looks like X'Ida'Easter is finally in it's death throws...getting stretched out pretty good this evening. Will it finally get torn apart and absorbed?

X'Ida'Easter - Around 30N and 45-50W.

Still able to track X-Ida'Easter. Starting to organize and deepen....and will be heading towards the Azores.

To think this entity was born on October 31st in the SW Caribbean is amazing. It's made several transitions since however the energy you see originated way back then.

November 20, 2009
Remnant Ida'Easter still chugging easterly. Models hint at the system deepening and hitting the Azores.
12HR WV Loop

November 19, 2009
IDA officially declared dead?
THE CARIBBEAN SEA... THE REMNANT LOW PRESSURE CENTER OF IDA FROM 24 HOURS AGO HAS DISSIPATED. THE DEEP LAYER TROUGH OF THE NOW-DISSIPATED IDA COVERS THE AREA FROM 25N59W TO 16N60W IN THE EASTERN CARIBBEAN SEA.

The remnant Ida'Easter continues to motor eastward this morning. Persistent comes to mind.

======================================
November 18, 2009
24 HR WV Loop - X-Ida-NorEaster continues to survive. Seems to be pushing easterly likely putting an end to any thought of looping back towards the US.

24 HR WV Loop - Looking a little more organized.

November 16, 2009
24 hour WV imagery of the ex-ida-nor'easter entity.

Not sure what to make of this anymore other than what a persistent feature it has been.

November 15, 2009
X-Ida (or Ex-Nor'Easter that Ida spawned, whichever your pleasure) is continuing ESE this morning - now giving Bermuda some rough weather.
12 Hr Loop: By the looks of the COC this may not be the end of "Ida". It's filled in some.

=
What's that over Maine?
Ida's energy split. A piece went northward while the ULL and surface low meandered and then tracked ESE out into the Atlantic.
The piece that went northward merged with an approaching front which helped to enhance the situation over Maine.
Here is a 48 hour satellite loop of the setup. You can see x-ida circulating along the bottom of the image.

Note: A case can be made that Ida transferred her energy to the developing low off of SC and was absorbed into that - as well as a front that merged as well. However, without Ida, you don't have the spark for the nor'easter to form.
So while there is debate there as to continuity it is still essentially the same energy recycled and it was done so without a drop in intensity of the overall system.
So it's referred to as extratropical Ida. If anything it is a way to identify the system for the sake of continued discussion.
