bird species....a fossil wing bone of a sSandhill found in Nebraska..dating 9 million years old....this time of year fond of waste grains following harvest of corn, wheat, barley. Haehnle Memorial Sanctuary, near Jackson, Michigan.

Fantastic photo! The sandhill cranes are very rare..two years ago, I went to the sandhill crane festival in Port Aransas, TX and at time, there were only 260 in existence. We also saw them on our drive home from CA last spring...thousands of them in the fields of Nebraska, eating the old corn stalks. They eat 10% of their weight on their flight back to the tundra. Only recently have I become interested in photography. I garden to attract wildlife and started taking pictures of butterflies to aid in identification.
